We’ve all seen them. Those funny little squiggly squares that remind us of a Rubik’s Cube. What are they exactly, how do they work and how can businesses benefit from them?

Happy Birthday, QR Codes are 15 Years Old!

Created by and until recently, patent protected by Japanese auto maker Toyota, QR Code is short for Quick Response Code and consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. Containing thousands of characters of information, they allow for immediate transfer of information.

Scan and Go!

Placed on print advertising, brochures & literature, QR Codes allow the user of a Smartphone (IPhone, Android & Blackberry) to scan the code which will then take their web browser to the exact webpage the advertiser wanted the person to visit.

When used for contact information, a Smartphone scan can immediately transfer a person’s contact information directly into the Smartphone users contact list!

Benefits for Business!

While the use of QR Codes is in it’s infancy as a marketing tool, the immediate potential is clear.

Business Cards – why not print two on the back. One for Contact Info and one as a link to your website!

Promotions, Specials & Events – provides a direct link from printed material to your websites Feature page!

Email, Newsletters, Blogs & Contest Sign Up – gather client information quickly!

Trade Shows and Promotional Products – offer a lasting way for customers to find your information easily!

Facebook Like – have your customers scan the code and be taken directly to a fully functioning “Like” button for your Facebook page!

These are only a few of the potential uses for QR Codes for business development

What’s Gotta Happen?

If you own a SmartPhone, simply download a QR Code Scanner from your online app store (ScanLife & QR Reader are proven). Once installed the scanner will work along with your Smartphone to launch your browser, put information in your Contact list or even make a phone call for you!

To create a QR Code there are several free online generators available or Virtual Image is pleased to assist you with this. If the QR Code is created to take you to a website, think about how the webpage will look on your Smartphone and give consideration to a mobile website page.

Give it a Try!

After downloading a reader to your SmartPhone, scan the code below.

Is Your Website Ready?

Mobile Browsing is performed using BlackBerrys, iPhones and Android phones all of which can be referred to as Smartphone’s.

In Canada there are:

24.5 Million wireless phone subscribers

An estimated 5 million Smartphone subscribers

1.5 million Smartphone subscribers in the GTA.

Industry analysts are suggesting that by 2015 Mobile Browsing will make up 50% of all Internet browsing!

What’s the Difference?

Mobile browsing differs from desktop browsing given the user is not using a traditional monitor, keyboard and mouse! Mobile websites are essentially a stripped down version of your current website that offers simple navigation to the most important pages of your website.

Experience the Difference.
